Zombie fue escrita por la cantante Dolores O'Riordan en homenaje a Jonathan Ball y Tim Parry, que fueron dos niños asesinados cruelmente por el IRA durante un ataque con bombas en la localidad de Warrington, Inglaterra en el año 1993.
Esto ocurrió un 20 de marzo de 1993, cuando el Ejército republicano irlandés provisional (IRA) hizo estallar dos bombas en el centro de la ciudad de Warrington. Producto de estos atentados murieron estos dos niños. Ese acto fue repudiado por diversas organizaciones internacionales que luchaban por la paz en ese territorio europeo y fue ua noticia que dió la vuelta al mundo e hizo reflexionar sobre la crueldad y las mentiras de las guerras.

En "Zombie", Dolores O'Riordan dejó plasmado toda su crítica (basada en frases irónicas) y repudio a esa innecesaria guerra que ya llevaba años matando gente inocente. En la canción, la banda quizo dejar su mensaje con dirección a la paz entre Inglaterra e Irlanda, para que de una vez por todas no sigan peleando por tonteras y ambas naciones miren al futuro y cuiden a su gente. Este atentado, dejó muy impactado a O'Riordan, ya que la muerte de esos dos niños marcaba la crueldad de un conflicto belico que ya estaba pasando sus límites, es por ello que en cada escenario donde cantaba la canción decía que"los niños son el futuro del mundo, no entiendo como alguien quiere hacerles daño". 

En Irlanda la canción fue un hit y hasta quedó como himno a la paz, lo mismo pasó en Inglaterra, donde la canción causó mucha gracia y fomentó a que la gente pidiera la paz y se uniera por esa causa.

Ludwig van Beethoven  (Bonn 1770 - Viena 1827) fue un compositor,director de orquesta y pianista alemán. Su legado musical abarca, cronológicamente, desde el período clásico hasta inicios del romanticismo musical. Es uno de los compositores más importantes de la historia de la música y su legado ha influido de forma decisiva en la música posterior.

Lewis Allen Reed, más conocido como Lou Reed (New York 1942-2013) , fue un cantante, guitarrista y compositor considerado el padre del rock alternativo, primero como líder del grupo The Velvet Underground y luego en solitario.

Enormemente influyente en la cultura pop desde la década de 1960, entre sus discos suelen destacarse Transformer (1972), Berlin (1973), Rock'n'Roll Animal (1976), Live: Take No Prisoners (1978), New York (1989) y, entre sus actuaciones en directo, el concierto ofrecido en el Meltdown Festival en 1998: Perfect Night Live in London.

Su mayor éxito comercial, sin embargo, es una canción posterior: "Walk on the Wild Side" (1972), que dio visibilidad a la prostitución y la transexualidad una temática que hasta la fecha la música rock no solía abordar.
